OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Brahman varsity basketball team is set open the second half of their season by hosting district foe Eau Gallie on Jan. 10 at OHS.

The Brahmans and Commodores most recently faced off at the Holiday Hoopla tournament in Vero Beach on Dec. 22, with Okeechobee taking a 48-27 victory. Junior Oliver Saunders had a team leading 18 points in the win, followed by sophomore John White with 12. White also led the team in rebounds and steals with 9 each

Okeechobee is currently ranked third in their district behind Port St. Lucie and Satellite.

When the Brahmans played the first place PSL Jaguars back on Dec. 12, they kept things neck and neck for much of the game. The two teams were tied 16-16 at the half, and the Brahmans trailed by only one point headed into the fourth quarter. But that fourth quarter saw the Jaguars outscore Okeechobee 17-4, which secured them a 44-30 win.

The Brahmans won their only other district game so far this season, beating Fort Pierce Westwood 40-38 on Dec. 5. White and junior Chaynaya'ah Phillips both scored 12 points in that win. Okeechobee will face Westwood again on Jan. 16.

After that they’ll be on the road to take on the Bayside Bears in another district match on Jan. 22, before coming back to Okeechobee to host the Jensen Beach Falcons on Jan. 23.
