OKEECHOBEE — Bridgette Waldau updated the city council on Cattleman’s Square Oct. 18, and said she was happy the park survived the storm. She said things will be even more stable now that the concrete pads have been installed. She explained the delay was due to a concrete shortage. They are now waiting for fill dirt and sod. Soon they will be putting up entrance gates and signage. She also mentioned they are working on having the “Welcome to Okeechobee” signs touched up, and Silver Spurs is donating that work.

Tammy Cook Weedon of Calvin, Giordano & Associates Inc. gave the council an update on the Veterans’ Square conceptual plan and the schedule for the completion of the rest of the conceptual plans for the remaining parks.

In other business at the Oct. 18 Okeechobee City Council meeting, the council approved a street closure for First Baptist Church for their annual Fall Festival.

The Leadership Okeechobee Class of 2022’s request to place a visitor’s sign at the Chamber of Commerce building was approved.

In other business, Mayor Watford:

• Proclaimed the month of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
• Presented a certificate of retirement to Executive Assistant Robin Brock after 22 years of service to the city.
• Proclaimed Oct. 24, 2022, as World Polio Day.
