OKEECHOBEE – Okeechobee County Commissioners had nothing but praise for County Administrator Deborah Manzo at her annual performance review during their June 22 meeting.
“My biggest fear is that we will take a good conscientious person and burn her out,” said Commissioner Brad Goodbread. “She deserves high marks across the board.”
“You make us look good,” he told Manzo. “Your job performance is stellar. My biggest fear is that you’ll leave.”
“It’s definitely a team effort,” said Manzo. “No one person could do it alone.”
Commissioner Kelly Owens said she is extremely pleased with Manzo’s work. “We continue to put things on your plate. You continue to rise with excellence,” she told the administrator. You do a tremendous amount of work with limited resources.”
“She has done an exemplary job with extremely limited sources,” agreed Commissioner Terry Burroughs. “She’s done an excellent job in terms of managing the staff. We have to make sure the staff understands exactly what the expectations are.”
He complimented Manzo’s tenacity and her desire to her best, every single day.
“On a different note, I want to thank you and Tracy for the whole team’s effort,” Commissioner Frank DeCarlo told Manzo. “I hare a lot of questions. I am constantly calling.
Sometimes I call after hours because something has come up. Your job never stops at 5 o’clock
“You and your staff, I never realized what it takes to run a community,” said DeCarlo, who was elected to the commission in 2022. “I appreciate you.”
“A couple times you’ve called and said ‘talk me off this ledge,’ and I’ve said, ‘Hang on. We’re going to jump together’,” joked Commission Chair David Hazellief.
He thanked Manzo for her efforts to recruit staff from other areas
He said hiring Manzo has been “great for Okeechobee.”
