OKEECHOBEE -- Rotary Club of Okeechobee’s Beast Feast Wild Game Dinner is planned for Saturday, March 2, from 6 to 10 p.m.

At their Jan. 11 meeting, the Okeechobee County Commissioners voted to waive the $1,225 fee for use of the Okeechobee Agri-Civic Center for the event, which includes facility rental, setup, event, clean-up/tear down, county staff time to support the event, and utility and waste disposal fees.

The annual Beast Feast Wild Game Dinner is a major fundraiser for the Okeechobee Rotary Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization and has helps support scholarships for Okeechobee High School students to attend Rotary Youth Leadership training, the March of Dimes, college scholarships for Okeechobee seniors, mini grants for Okeechobee County educators, school supplies for first year teachers and more.

Commissioners also waived the facility use fees for the Douglas Brown Community Center for the Jan. 21 banquet to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Shirlean Graham, president of The Ladies of Elegance of Okeechobee, Inc., said the event will start at 5 p.m.

The Ladies of Elegance of Okeechobee, Inc., is a community based, not-for-profit organization that is focused on education and providing scholarships for high school seniors. For several years, the Ladies of Elegance hosted banquets and other events to celebrate and honor the life of Martin Luther King, Jr.  “Our organization provides scholarships for young woman and men,” she explained. Last year the organization gave out $2,500 in scholarships.
