County welcomes new emergency management director

OKEECHOBEE  -- Todd Hardacre was appointed as the new Okeechobee County Emergency Management Director at the July 14 meeting of the Okeechobee County Commission.

Hardacre will take over from Mitch Smeykal, who is retiring.

Hardacre has been employed by Florida Department of Health in Okeechobee as the Public Health Preparedness Planner since 2017. He has a master’s degree in Public Administration/Emergency Management and Planning  from FIU and a bachelor's degree in Public Administration/Emergency Management and Planning. He also has numerous certifications in business, FEMA, emergency management, first aid and CPR.

Hardacre will be responsible for the administrative and supervisory work in planning, organizing, implementing, and managing all elements of Okeechobee County’s Emergency Management Program.
