Fatal crash on U.S. 441 S.E.

MARTIN COUNTY – A 51-year-old Okeechobee man was killed in a crash on U.S. 441 S.E. at 2 p.m. on Feb. 26, according to the Florida Highway Patrol Report.

According to the FHP report, a 2022 Mack Anthem Semi Truck with a 53 foot box trailer and a a 2016 Hino Box Truck were traveling northbound on State Road 15 (aka U.S. 441) north of State Road 76 (Kanner Highway).

There was construction on the road and the southbound lane was closed. A flagger had northbound traffic stopped. The semi  stopped in traffic. The driver of the box truck failed to stop in time, the report continues. The front of the box truck struck the semi’s trailer.

The driver of the box truck was killed in the crash. The driver of the semi, a 38-year-old Stuart man, was transported to Martin Memorial Hospital South for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation.
