OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahmans’ varsity volleyball team celebrated their Senior Night on Sept. 28 before their match against the Sebring Lady Blue Streaks.

The varsity team has six seniors this year, Sydney Matthews, Mamie Mccoy, Isabelle Veloz, Jillian Durfee, Lexi Thomas, and Penelope Van Eman.

After recognizing the seniors, the Lady Brahmans faced-off against Sebring in an important district game. Earlier this season Okeechobee shut-out Sebring 3 sets to 0, and the rematch was a replay of that same script.

The Lady Brahmans dominated all three sets, winning the first 25-7, second 25-16, and third 25-8. The most competitive set was the second, which saw the Lady Blue Streaks fight their way to an 11-11 tie, but Okeechobee took control in the second half of the set and secured the win.

Matthews had 7 kills, while Van Eman and Veloz each had 5 kills. Thomas 5 digs, and junior Madison Ayuso had 5 aces.

Before completing the season sweep of Sebring, the Lady Brahmans had four consecutive 3-0 shut-outs of their opponents, starting with a 3-0 district win over Fort Pierce Westwood on Sept. 18. They followed that win with 3-0 wins over Sebastian River, John Carroll Catholic, and Martin County.

Okeechobee is 3-0 in district games this season, with their final district match of the regular season on the horizon against Jensen Beach. The Lady Falcons are the reigning district and state champions and will be a good test for the Lady Brahmans ahead of the district playoffs. Okeechobee hosts Jensen Beach at 7 p.m. on Oct. 10.
