UPDATED Neighbors spot coffin in front of vacant house

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — Residents in the Blue Heron Golf Course community were surprised Friday morning to spot a coffin in the driveway of what they thought was a vacant home. The Okeechobee City Police Department showed up to investigate the situation soon after this photo was taken.

Okeechobee City Police Detective Bettye Taylor said  officers responded to the abandoned home on Southeast 21st Street in Blue Heron subdivision after a call from concerned neighbors. The home had been abandoned but was now under new ownership. The neighbor told police the coffin was sitting in the driveway with a bunch of other stuff that appeared to have been cleared from the residence. Officers located a number for the real estate compnay handling the sale of the home. They advised they had no idea who put the coffin outside and knew nothing about a coffin. The detective said officers did check inside and found the coffin empty.

A poster on Facebook claims to have collected the coffin to use as a Halloween prop.
