OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahmans and the Clewiston High School Lady Tigers are scheduled for an early matchup this softball season.

The Lady Tigers are traveling to take on the Lady Brahmans on Feb. 22 in Okeechobee.

Both teams are coming off seasons that saw them finish as district runners up. The Lady Tigers came within one run of winning the district championship last year, falling to American Heritage 5-4 in the championship.

Returning to the team this year for Clewiston is a talented group of seniors that have had plenty of success throughout their time with the program. That group is led by senior Ryland Polhill, who led the team in hits last season. On the pitcher’s mound Polhill led the team with 105 batters struck out. Fellow seniors like Hilary Martin, Jade Potter, Nyla Hill, and Samantha Morales will all be key contributors for the Lady Tigers this year.

The Lady Brahmans finished with an 11-7 record in the regular season last year. Head coach Kelci Breaux helped guide Okeechobee to a four-game win streak near the end of the regular season with big victories over Bayside, Glades Day, Sebastian River, and Martin County.

Okeechobee is also has a core of returning talented players from last season’s squad this year. Mallory Collier led the Lady Brahmans in hits, RBIs, and homeruns last year as a sophomore. Morgan Hancock led the team in stolen bases during the previous season and is back this year as a senior, while her fellow senior, Laci Prescott, struck out a team leading 114 batters lasts season.

The Lady Tiger and Lady Brahman varsity teams are set to start their game at 7 p.m. on Feb. 22.
