Okeechobee County sets property tax rate at 8.0 mills

Posted

OKEECHOBEE – Okeechobee County Commissioners approved the final millage rate of 8.0 mills at their Sept. 22 meeting.

The millage rate for the 2023-2024 fiscal year is the same as the current year. Some property owners will see their taxes increase if the value of their property has increased. One mill equals $1 in taxes for very $1,000 of taxable property value.

The taxable property value that is not exempt from taxation within Okeechobee County has been certified by the Okeechobee County Property Appraiser to the Board as $3,581,872,571. (Many properties qualify for homestead exemption or agriculture classification, which reduce the taxable value.)

According to the staff report, 8.0 mills will generate $28,654,981 in ad valorem taxes.
