Okeechobee Fire Report

Okeechobee County Fire Rescue responded to 278 incidents between April 10 and April 23. These included 14 smoke or fire, 22 motor vehicle accidents, six invalid assists, 211 emergency medical assists and 30 miscellaneous calls.

Of 209 possible transports, 76 were refused or used another method of transportation.

Below are a few of the highlights:

  • On April 15 at approximately 5:15 p.m., OCFR responded to State Road 78 West regarding an off-road vehicle fire. When they arrived, they found a fully involved tractor fire with a small amount of grass on fire/ The fire was extinguished, but the tractor was burned down to the chassis.
  • On April 11 at approximately 6:30 p.m., OCFR responded to the 5000 block of State Road 70 West regarding an off-road vehicle fire. When they arrived, they found a large, enclosed cab tractor fully involved in fire. Employees had already disconnected the hay cutter it had been pulling. They attempted to put the fire out with fire extinguishers until OCFR arrived. The fire was extinguished, and the fire marshal notified.
