Okeechobee Winn-Dixie closed following damage during storm

OKEECHOBEE- The Winn-Dixie in Okeechobee is currently closed following damage from a thunderstorm.

At 6:19 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a thunderstorm warning for southeastern Okeechobee County. According to the report issued by the National Weather Service the radar indicated 60 mph wind gusts and quarter sized hail.

Images posted by customers in Winn-Dixie show roof tiles and littering the floor in the produce department and extensive leaking throughout the front of the store near the cash registers. Customers thanked the Winn-Dixie employees for helping keep them safe while the storm passed.

Okeechobee County Fire Rescue responded to the scene. It’s not yet known how long the grocery store will be closed, as the damage from the storm is still being assessed.
