OKEECHOBEE — A reported "stranger danger" incident in Okeechobee County recently was apparently a misunderstanding.
On Jan. 15 a Deberry Gardens area mother reported a stranger had approached her 4-year-old child and told her she was cute.
The mother told police the man was in a red truck. The mother got a photo of the vehicle as it drove away. She shared the photo with the police, on social media and with the News.
On Jan. 24, the mother retracted her story, explaining it was just a misunderstanding and the person who spoke to her child was a relative who was driving a vehicle they were not familiar with.
"I am trying to fix it with police," the mother explained. "I reported it because it was a mom instinct but we now know who it was and I just talked to him. Sorry for the misunderstanding."
