Retired? Need something new to do?

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — Retired but not ready to sit around. How about giving back to your community.

Our C.O.P. (Citizens Observer Patrol) may have an opportunity for you. You give as much time as you would like, patrolling the area as an extra set of eyes and ears for the Sheriff's Office.

Consider it a mobile crime watch or neighborhood watch. Never get involved with "real-time crimes," but keep an eye out for anything suspicious and a few more enjoyable duties that help others in need.

If you are interested, come to the Sheriff's Office Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to  5 p.m. and pick up a volunteer application and be sure to mark COP Program. You can also call 863.763,3117 Ext 5018.

There is an application and background process that needs to be done prior to patrolling.
