Special magistrate to hear code enforcement cases

OKEECHOBEE – The Okeechobee County Special Magistrate will hear new and old cases as well as a request for a lien reduction on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 9 a.m. in the meeting room at 1700 N.W. Ninth Ave.

The magistrate will hear new cases including:

  • 2300 NW 395th Court property owned by Norma Jean Bowden, cited for failure to obtain permit for renovations, overgrown grass and weeds;
  • 15320 N.W. 282nd Street property owned by Delcilene de Oliveria, cited for unauthorized structure, unauthorized use of land, abandoned/discarded appliance with doors attached;
  • 15682 NW 12th Terrace property owned by Natalie Christmas, cited for deterioration of building, dilapidated structures which constitute a fire hazard, overgrown weeds and inoperable vehicle;
  • 1706 N.W. Fourth St. property owned by Deborah Yvonne Saunders Revocable Trust, cited for unauthorized occupancy of recreational vehicle, overgrowth, outdoor storage and dumping;
  • 1183 S.E. 40th property owned by Bartholomew F. Caso and Amalia F. Caso, cited for outdoor storage or dumping, unauthorized farm animals in residential district;
  • 3747 S.E. 32nd Lane property owned by Charles N. Daniels, cited for overgrown weeds, outdoor storage or dumping;
  • 7658 N.W. 92nd Court property owned by Travis Driscoll, cited for outdoor storage or dumping;
  • 8725 S.E. 57th Drive property owned by Juan M. Mata and Paula Mat, cited for outdoor storage or dumping.
  • 2716 NW 46th Ave. property owned by Medford Simmons, cited for roof damage (blue tarp), inoperable/unlicensed vehicle, outdoor storage and overgrown weeds;
  • 5853 N.W. 30th Street property owned by Moises G Reynoso-Lopez, cited for outdoor storage, inoperable/unlicensed vehicles, and dilapidated accessory structure.

The hearing will also consider old cases, including:

  • 1341 N.E. 14th Ave, property owned by Chaka Smith;
  • 18613 N.W. 306th St. Property owned by Alexander Angus McIntosh;
  • 198 S.E. 14th property owned by Steven Max Gage;
  • 16882 NW 298th St. property owned by Mara Marrero and Daniel Marrero;
  • 15782 N.W. 244th property owned by Israel A. Arroyo;
  • 1083 N.E. 16th property controlled by Andrew Epps and W.J. Butler, trustees of New Hope Lodge No. 450;
  • 17284 N.W. 266th property owned by Carol S. Herbst and Robert Dean Schiller-Sulprizio;
  • 17336 N.W. 298th property owned by Eli Maria Da Cunha;
  • 20480 N.W. 294th property owned by William Roque Alonso;
  • 1661 State Road 70 W. property owned by David Feltenberger, new owner, Sunshine Getaway LLC
  • 6622 N.E. Second St. property owned by Connie Rollins;
  • 3492 S.E. 30th Terrace property owned by Charles S. Hodges;

In other business, Charles McPeak is requesting a reduction of the lien on property at 8878 S.E. 68th Drive.  McPeak stated he was unaware of the $53,500 lien when he purchased the property. He stated in an affidavit signed Dec. 29, 2023, that the property was cleaned up within two months of the purchase. According to the Code Enforcement paperwork, the property was found in violation on Oct. 18, 2017. Fines accrued until the property was brought into compliance on Sept. 7, 2022. The Okeechobee County Property Appraiser website lists the property owner as Roger McPeak and the most recent sale as May 24, 2018 for $87,000.
