Another incident of 'stranger danger' reported

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — An incident of “stranger danger” was reported on Jan. 20.

On Saturday, Deputy William Jolly was dispatched to the home of a family who told him a man in a white van tried to pick up their 14-year-old son.

The boy’s mother said she was in the house, and her son was out in the yard when the van pulled up holding out a political flyer. She went on to say her son took the flyer, and the van left. However, a few minutes later, the van came back, and the man climbed out. He went around to the passenger side, cleaned it off and beckoned her son to get in. He held up three fingers, indicating $300 and said, “Come on.”

The mom said her son told the man to leave before something bad happens, and then he took photos of the van, including the tag.

The teen agreed with his mom’s account of the events.

Deputy Jolly ran the tag number, coming up with the name of a man living in Davis, Florida.

The family was told to call or text if they saw him again.

911, stranger danger
