Woman accused of bringing drugs on weekend work crew

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — In some instances, instead of incarceration, people often get put on the weekend work crew as part of their community service hours under their sentencing obligations.

You may see the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office bus out in areas with people cleaning up sites like Lock 7, public parks, and  roadways.

Recently, OCSO Detention Corporal Gary Cashwell believed drugs, specifically methamphetamines, were brought into the program by one of the 11 participants.

Cashwell coordinated with Okeechobee Narcotics Detective Leland Schoonmaker and his partner Samba for them to come and do an open-air search for any illegal contraband.

Samba alerted, showing one of the eleven individuals and their backpack had something illegal, Janelle Czech-Pasley, 42.

While searching Czech-Pasleys' belongings, methamphetamine was found hidden within a cigarette back, and she was arrested and charged with possession and given a $10,000 bond.
