Work continues on county jail expansion

Posted

OKEECHOBEE – Work on the Okeechobee County Jail expansion continues, according to information shared at the Jan. 23 meeting of the Okeechobee County Commission.

Paul Fernandez, with Ajax Building Company, said work is progressing on the new kitchen addition for the jail. “Everything is looking pretty good,” he said. “We’re getting ready to pour the slab this week.”

Elsewhere on the project, he explained the fire training tower still requires repairs to the stairs. “Fence work will start sometime this week,” he added.

Joe Mrak of Secuirtecture said his company is monitoring the occupancy of Phase 1A Housing Pod and providing any assistance required.

Commission Chairman David Hazellief asked ab out the bid for the second housing pod.  “That’s going to be important to keep the time frame going.” Okeechobee County Capital Projects Director Justin Nelson said they hope to have harder numbers to bring back to the board by the second commission meeting in February.
